Chiltern is to implement a new Haulier Enterprise transport management system from Proteo, an EDP Future 50 firm, across its 40-strong fleet to improve operational efficiency and reduce the company’s fuel costs.

The aim of the five-figure deal will be to drive down costs at the specialist haulier by managing everything from workflow to insurance claims. Haulier Enterprise is a transport management system designed for mid to large-size haulage businesses, which manages every aspect of contract logistics from allowing customers to directly enter orders on to the system to tracking the vehicle and generating the paperwork, helping hauliers to reduce costs and work more efficiently.

The Proteo system provides time/place vehicle data and reports vehicle movements, providing a complete fleet overview, enabling Chiltern to locate and assign their vehicles to the appropriate loads. The system also simplifies transport processes from planning, traceability and vehicle telemetry.

Having vehicle location history data in the same place as order information also supports a new level of accuracy in analysis and reporting and is useful when dealing with insurance claims and premium increases.

Alistair Atkinson, sales director at Proteo, said: “Rising fuel prices and pressure on margins means that hauliers can benefit from technology systems which drive efficiency and help them to deliver the service levels that their clients demand.

“We are delighted to be working with Chiltern helping them to improve the efficiency of their fleet by enabling them to monitor fuel consumption rates and make informed decisions about vehicle load fill, reducing empty running.”

Paul Jackson, managing director of Chiltern Cold Storage, said: “It’s a one-stop solution that satisfies all of our requirements. The system provides us with even more detailed online tracking of vehicles and loads, reports on driver and vehicle performance as well as vital business information to help us maintain our controls and efficiencies. It manages every aspect of our business, including directly entering orders on to the system and generating the paperwork, helping us to work more efficiently.”

Established in 2003, Proteo has clients from a range of sectors including manufacturing, the NHS, local government and retail in addition to transport and logistics. It employs 30 staff at its Norwich office.
